What to look for
How to read this comparison · method notes & evidence
All candidates use matched, registered geographic crops. The original artwork is shown with smooth enlargement and with an explicit crisp pixel display. The main upscaler set starts from each scene’s original 1× baseline. Where available, AnimeVideo v3 · fresh 2× → 4× instead enlarges the fresh 2× generation by another 2×. The fresh generation is a different AI drawing from a higher-resolution source; it is a detail/style comparison and cannot establish geographic facts.
Upscaling can make contours and existing marks easier to read, but it cannot establish missing doors, window counts or other geographic facts. Learned methods may invent small marks. Crisp pixel display preserves the original samples and exposes their square structure. It presents the existing pixels; it does not reconstruct the scene as hand-drawn pixel art.
At 2× zoom, each original image pixel spans two CSS pixels and a 2× output pixel occupies one CSS pixel. At 4× zoom, a 4× output pixel occupies one CSS pixel; on a DPR1 screen that is one physical pixel. Device pixel ratio is included in the drawing buffer. “Crisp native pixels” uses interpolation only while reducing an image; enlargement keeps its actual samples sharp. The original smooth control always uses interpolation. No sharpening is applied by this page.
These are crop experiments. A production choice would be applied to one complete master image, with every pyramid level derived from that same image. Compare buildings, trees and patterned surfaces at several zoom levels before choosing.
